SBL launches its massive expansion of brewery facility in Moshi

November 2022:

Serengeti Breweries Limited (SBL) commissioned a three-year expansion project in our Moshi Brewery, marking the start of a Bold, Progressive journey towards greater service to Tanzanian beer Consumers.

The ceremony was presided over by Hon. Exaud Silaoneka Kigahe, Deputy Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment who stated that the expansion of this facility is significant because it shows the level of commitment SBL has in the country and its commitment to increase its productivity will accelerate economic growth by providing employment opportunities for local farmers to get market for their produce.

Hon. Kigahe further said, “the move makes Serengeti breweries a significant contributor to the country's economy by creating many more jobs for Tanzanians and offering solutions into the labor market for the country. The expansion translates to more production, more growth, more sales and even More Taxes which helps to support our country's budget.

Speaking at the ceremony, SBL Managing Director Mark Ocitti commented on the investment, saying, "this level of investment is certainly a strong indicator of the faith that Diageo, our principal shareholder, and indeed we, Serengeti Breweries, have in the leadership of the Government of Tanzania to create a stable environment in which businesses can thrive."

The expansion of the Serengeti Brewery facility in Moshi is part of SBL's three-year investment in expanding the business and has come at the cost of approximately 185 billion shillings in capital expenditure. Between 2019 and 2020, 31 billion shillings were invested in the Dar es Salaam brewery, 13.4 billion shillings in the construction of the spirits production facility and 124 billion shillings in the expansion of the beer production facility in Moshi. Last year, we spent another 15.7 billion shillings to expand our Mwanza brewery.
