Lord Walney Commends Diageo's £65M Investment in Tanzania.

May 2023:

Lord Walney, the UK Prime Minister's Trade Envoy to Tanzania, expressed his admiration for Diageo's significant investment in expanding its operations in Tanzania, amounting to over 65 million Pounds over the past three years. Operating as Serengeti Breweries Limited (SBL) in Tanzania, the company is a prominent player in the Eastern African nation's beer and spirits industry, ranking among the top ten large taxpayers. Lord Walney praised SBL's investment for its positive contributions to the Tanzanian economy, including job creation and support for local communities.

SBL's commitment extends beyond business growth, as it has been involved in various social initiatives through its Society 2030 programs. Over the past 12 years, SBL has undertaken 24 water projects, providing clean and safe water to approximately two million beneficiaries across the country. In 2020, the company launched an agricultural scholarship program benefiting 230 students from agricultural communities. This program aligns with SBL's dedication to assisting the Tanzanian government in modernizing the country's agricultural sector. Lord Walney, visiting SBL for the second time in as many years, commended these efforts as part of the company's broader contributions to the nation.
