Empowering Women Through our WASH Program in Handeni.

Serengeti Breweries is actively empowering women in Tanzania through its WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) programs. These initiatives focus on providing communities, where women and girls often bear the responsibility of collecting water over long distances, with access to clean water. In addition to constructing the Kwamaizi water dam project in Handeni District, Tanga Region, the company is also investing in a WASH program specifically tailored for women in the area. This program not only ensures easier access to water but also empowers women to actively participate in the project's management and community decision-making forums, ultimately fostering their independence.

Moreover, the Handeni water project aligns with Serengeti Breweries' efforts to support and train women in modern sorghum farming, enabling them to become suppliers of local raw materials to the brewery. Local authorities, led by Handeni District Commissioner Albert Msando, believe that SBL's water project will not only improve accessibility to water but also unlock numerous social and economic opportunities for the people of Handeni District, particularly benefiting women who will no longer need to travel long distances to obtain this vital resource.
