April 9th, 2022

Serengeti Breweries Limited (SBL) has donated 150 blankets to the Mwika Rotary Club of Moshi in the Kilimanjaro region as part of its Corporate Social Investment program.

Speaking during the donation handover event, SBL’s plant Manager for Moshi brewery Alice Kilembe said the company was proud to extend a helping hand to the Mwika Rotary Club and elderly people living in the area in particular./

‘The donation we are making today to these elderly people is a sign of our love and appreciation for the good work they have done for our nation in their youthful days." The community needs to take care of this group, and SBL is proud to donate the blankets that will protect them from extreme cold in the coming winter season,’ she said. Aside from the donation to Mwika Rotary Club, Alice stated that SBL has been implementing a number of community support programs that have impacted the lives of many people throughout the country.

‘In 2019, SBL introduced a scholarship program tailored to benefit students pursuing agricultural courses in local colleges in support of the government’s effort to enlarge the existing pool of agricultural experts in the country, and so far over 200 have benefited from this program,’ she said.

‘We have undertaken and continue to undertake other community support initiatives, such as water stewardship, popularly known as 'Water of Life' (WOL), a program that has implemented 22 water projects in various parts of the country since 2010, sustainably providing clean and safe water to over two million people,’ she admitted. Other programs mentioned by the plant manager include agri-business, which helps large and small-holder farmers increase production while providing a ready market for their harvests.

Mwika Rotary Club Ex-President Ester Towo, who represented the current president Godrick Lyimo, expressed gratitude to SBL for the support, noting that the donation was a significant boost for the organization, which relies on such donations to survive.

'The donation of the blankets by SBL to help 150 elderly people in Mwika and the surrounding areas is very welcome at this time of year, it will keep them warm enough during the harsh cold seasons here in Mwika,' she says. The beneficiaries live in their homes, but they lack support because they have no one to look after them. A donation of this magnitude makes them feel valued and recognized. 'Thank you, SBL,' she said.
