SBL Connects Farmers to New Markets and Resources at Nane Nane

Dodoma, Tanzania - The Nane Nane exhibitions organized by the government annually have proven to be an effective ground to bolster farmers' interests by accessing new market opportunities in the country. Key exhibitors and stakeholders in the agriculture sector such as Serengeti Breweries Limited (SBL) have responded to this call by connecting with the farming community, sharing valuable knowledge, and exploring new market opportunities for local farmers.

Aloyce Kimaro, SBL's Agribusiness Officer, emphasized the company's commitment to empowering farmers their 400 farmers through agribusiness education and material support such as free seeds. He highlighted that SBL serves farmers of all sizes, offering them contracts to ensure a reliable market for their produce. "We serve and take care of all our farmers of all sizes, small, medium, and large. All of them receive contracts from us."

"Moreover, our engagement spans multiple regions, including Central, Lake Zone, Northern, and Southern Highlands, covering a total of 16 regions which are Singida, Dodoma, Manyara, Moshi, Arusha, Morogoro, Iringa, Mbeya, Rukwa, Kagera, Njombe, Ruvuma, Tabora, Mwanza, Mara and Tanga".

Kimaro also mentioned that SBL is working towards expanding its sourcing capacity to include red sorghum farmers, in addition to the white sorghum farmers already which they are already sourcing from farmers across the country.

SBL has also demonstrated its commitment to connecting its farmers with institutions that provide inputs and credit, offering comprehensive support beyond merely purchasing their produce. This holistic approach ensures that farmers are well-prepared to meet market demands and improve their livelihoods.

SBL attests that the foundation of SBL's high-quality products begins on the farm. SBL visits farmers and recognizes their efforts, conducts soil testing and provides them with the best seeds. To maintain this quality, SBL employs state-of-the-art laboratories for soil testing, ensuring that the best seeds and practices are used from field to glass.

Currently, SBL is looking into expanding its sourcing from 400 farmers where it is sourcing 80% of its beer-making cereals such as barley, sorghum, and maize and there is potential to purchase from farmers in Dodoma, provided the quality and quantity meet the company's standards.
